The Story Inside

A closer look at the philosophy behind EHD, from the way we approach design to the principles that continue to guide our work.

THE STUDIO

At the heart of EHD is Elizabeth’s belief that great design comes from looking at the whole picture. Her approach was shaped by an early career in product design and engineering, where she developed a deep understanding of precision, craftsmanship, and how thoughtful design comes together from the smallest details. Her work in luxury interior design took her from Washington, D.C., to Australia, before ultimately bringing her experience and perspective to Utah 12 years ago, where she began building what we know today as EHD. Our philosophy is rooted in intentional design, where architecture, interiors, materiality, and function work together to create spaces with lasting beauty and purpose.

Since then, EHD has grown from a small Utah practice into a worldwide architecture and interior design firm with offices in Salt Lake City, New York City, Miami, and Los Angeles. While the scale and scope of the work have evolved, the principles behind it have remained consistent. Each project begins by understanding the client, the architecture, and the way the space will ultimately be lived in, allowing every decision to contribute to a cohesive and considered whole.

Today, EHD is known for its forward-thinking approach to luxury design that balances sophistication with approachability. Defined by restraint, our work allows form, material, and proportion to speak with quiet impact. We believe luxury is found not only in the materials and finishes selected, but in the thoughtfulness behind every decision, from the architectural details to the way a room functions and ultimately feels. The result is spaces that feel elevated and refined while remaining warm, approachable, and designed to be lived in.

As EHD has grown, so has the team behind the work. Today, our team of architects and interior designers bring their individual expertise to each project, collaborating closely from the earliest stages through completion. This collective approach allows architecture and interiors to evolve together, with each discipline informing the other and bringing a different perspective to the design.

As EHD continues to evolve, we remain grounded in the belief that the most successful spaces are not defined by a particular moment or trend, but by how thoughtfully they respond to the people, architecture, and lives within them. Looking ahead, that perspective will continue to shape the work we do—creating spaces with purpose, character, and lasting beauty.
