The Art of Space: How Luxury Architecture Enhances the Human Experience

As architects, it is our job to create comfortable and beautiful spaces for people to live in and experience. At EHD we have been working with Basalte, a home automation company, to explore new technologies that elevate luxury spaces. We have been designing a commercial showroom for Basalte in Salt Lake City that showcases all that home automation has to offer.

An important part of creating luxury architecture is considering all aspects of how a design will affect a user. From products to material finishes to the overall flow of a floor plan, all of these aspects play an important role in crafting a successful space. Working with Basalte, it was important to create a cohesive and simple design that elevated their products. We focused on creating spaces that easily flow into each other so that the public could easily move between spaces in this showroom. We also wanted to create private areas for the staff that felt just as comfortable and luxurious as the rest of the space. By using integrated doorways with hidden handles to the office space we created a truly hidden and private area where employees can focus. In the public areas, we focused on using beautiful finishes that elevate Basalte’s products.

Some of the most technologically advanced products that Basalte offers include automated lights, climate controls, music controls, security, motion sensors, and core servers. With beautifully finished wall-mounted controls, Basalte makes a typically function-focused service also aesthetically pleasing. One of our favorite features that Basalte provides is its motion sensor lights. Not only are these customizable and create an impact when you walk into a space, but they also are economical and reduce energy consumption.

Simple, minimalist, elegant, and thoughtful design elevates commercial spaces and helps serve a function. Whether a showroom, an office, a spa, or a cafe, timeless design allows for a functional yet beautiful space.
